3 Reasons You Need A Guide

Who needs a guide, anyway? Can’t I go climb on some rocks by myself? Sure you can! and should! Keep that adventurous spirit alive. Many of us who love the outdoors as adults, were climbing swing sets and playground structures as kids. But if you want to climb high, high enough to where ya might not be too interested in hitting the ground, safety has to be THE priority. That’s where we come in. This post is for those who ask, “is a day with a climbing guide right for me/us?”

In my experience there are three main groups that our clients fall into.

The Brand-News. Have you never put on a harness or climbing shoes? Awesome. You are our target demographic. Guides are largely teachers, who aside from being stoked about outdoor adventure, pursue the art of pedagogy. The process of meeting a brand new climber, maybe a little timid or unsure, and helping them develop into a bona fide rock climber is one of the main reasons we do what we do. No experience or personal equipment needed, only a little bit of stoke!

The Climbers. Hey, you already know how to climb, congrats! Maybe you go to your local gym or have been a number of times outdoors with your friends. Why would you book a guide? Climbing is a life-long learning process and we can say that without exception, no climber knows everything (not even us!). Maybe you want to learn how to safely lead outside. Maybe you want to know how to build anchors so you and your friends can go toproping. Maybe you want to venture into the world of multi-pitching, but you aren’t sure where to start. Here’s a hint- you are getting warmer…. warmer…. hot…. HOT. SCALDING HOT.

The Find-a-Partners. You’re already a climber. You know knots, technique, anchors, ropecraft- the staples of the sport. You might be from out of town, or climbing in an area new to you. You want a partner, and it would be nice to be able to leave the logistics to someone else. Lucky for you, logistics is what we do. From providing equipment (traveling with your own can be a pain!), to choosing the perfect routes/areas, to ensuring a smooth and expeditious approach, booking a trip with us will strip away all the nuts and bolts of a day out and let you focus on enjoying the climbing. After all, that is the goal!
